          About Joanna Gresik

Joanna Gresik is an artist by night and a corporate interior designer by day, living in Burlington, Ontario. Her love for interiors and architecture inspires her work as she aims to create beauty from her surroundings. Joanna's studio is located in her old 60’s side-split house, where she lives with her husband, daughter, and their dog, Homie.

Joanna began painting in 2010 and has had a brush in her hand ever since. She graduated in 2009 with an interior design degree and later returned to school, earning a bachelor’s degree in drawing and painting from OCAD University in Toronto, Ontario, in 2011.

Joanna creates gestural abstract landscape paintings based on everyday scenes. She takes inspiration from everyday life, whether it’s walking through her neighborhood, driving through the country, or riding transit through the city. Every space she moves through inspires her to recreate the experience with her artwork. Joanna's landscapes are not literal or realist; they convey the feeling and emotion of a space.

          Joanna Gresik's Artist Statement

I create gestural abstract landscape paintings that are based on everyday scenes.

I take inspiration from everyday life: walks through the neighborhood, drives through the country, and riding transit through the city. Every space I move through inspires me to recreate the experience with my artwork. My landscapes aren’t literal or realist; they are about the feeling and emotion of a space. I love playing with colour combinations and often use unexpected colours in my work. The best thing in the world to me is approaching the canvas with a brush of loaded paint and making that first mark.
