Gordon Harrison: Award-winning contemporary artist

Born in MontrĂ©al in 1953, Gordon Harrison showed an interest in art at an early age. Enthralled by the natural Laurentian landscapes surrounding him as a young boy, he followed his passion choosing to study landscape architecture at the University of Toronto. Gordon Harrison is a juried member of the Society of Canadian Artists and L’AcadĂ©mie Internationale des Beaux-arts du QuĂ©bec.

His partner and gallerist, Phil Emond, operates the Gordon Harrison Canadian Landscape Gallery on Sussex drive in Ottawa. The gallery showcases Gordon Harrison’s collection of Canadian landscapes from his travels across Canada and at times in Europe. The gallery also showcases the work of three established artists each year as well as works from Gordon Harrison's apprentices at times.

Although mainly self-taught, Gordon has taken courses at the Ottawa School of Art and was highly influenced by one of Canada’s foremost artists, QuĂ©bec’s Jean-RenĂ© Richard (1895–1982).

In 2018, he received first prize at Le Domaine Saint-Bernard Symposium in Tremblant, QuĂ©bec.  IN 2016, Gordon Harrison received international recognition as Best solo artist at New York International Art Expo among more than 400 international artists.  In 2014, he received national recognition with first prize at the National Painting Competition of RĂȘves d’Automne in Baie-Saint-Paul, Charlevoix region, QuĂ©bec, competing among 140 Canadian artists and 251 paintings from Canada and Europe.  In 2010, he was invited to share his journey as an artist at the national gallery of Canada.

Gordon and Phil are quite involved in their community. Together they created the Art Inspiration Program working with students in schools to supplement the art curriculum. They also created the Apprentices of Gordon Harrison Exhibit showcasing the works of people in our community Gordon Harrison coaches each year.
